The Sembrich pays tribute to the tradition of summertime concerts in the park with this diverse and entertaining performance by accordion virtuoso Michael Bridge. Hailed as a “wizard of the accordion!” by CBC Music, and named one of CBC’s “30 Hot Classical Musicians Under 30,” Bridge performs a program of works ideal for our outdoor lakeside setting.
The repertoire ranges from a technically demanding classic by J.S. Bach to popular gems, such as “Csardas” by Monti and “Moon River” by Henry Mancini, and works with a Spanish flair, including “Andaluzia” by Granados and “Intoxicating,” a tango composed by Bridge himself. You will hear both an acoustic instrument and a more modern digital accordion, and will delight in Bridge’s original arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s iconic 1812 Overture, enhanced with pealing church bells and thundering cannon fire.
